Is Codecademy Pro Price Worth It for Developing New Skills?

Codecademy Pro is worth it for people who want to develop their programming skills and learn more about various technology subjects. Here is our review of what Codecademy Pro has to offer:

1. Code Foundations Courses

Codecademy has 10 courses that cover basic programming skills. Specifically, it has courses for C++, Java, JavaScript, Python, Swift, and Ruby.

2. Computer Science Courses

Codecademy offers 9 beginner friendly courses for computer science, covering C++, C#, Java, and Python.

Codecademy also has 9 intermediate courses. These courses include Skill Paths for passing the technical interviews for Java, JavaScript, and Python.

3. Cybersecurity Courses

Codecademy offers 1 introductory course for cybersecurity. Truth be told, there are better online learning options for people who want to learn cybersecurity.

4. Data Science Courses

Codecademy has 17 beginner friendly courses for data science. There are Career Paths for data analysts and data scientists. And there are Skill Paths for Python, R, and SQL.

Codecademy also offers 25 intermediate courses. These courses include Skill Paths for machine learning, natural language processing, deep learning, and statistics.

5. Data Visualization Courses

Codecademy has 4 courses for data visualization using Python and R. If that is what you are interested in, however, DataCamp is probably a better option.

6. Developer Tools Courses

Codecademy offers 2 courses that cover Bash/Shell. As far as we know, it is the only online coding platform that offers these types of courses.

7. Game Development Courses

Codecademy has 2 courses for game development, focusing on Phaser.js and A-Frame.

8. Machine Learning Courses

Codecademy offers 5 machine learning courses. They are mostly focused on using the R programming language.

Is Codecademy Pro Worth It for Getting a Job?

To be honest, finishing a course from Codecademy is not going to be enough to help you land your dream job in the tech industry. Most employers will only hire people with relevant college degrees and work experience.

But our review found that taking Codecademy Pro courses still has some career benefits. Most importantly, you will gain advanced programming skills that are in high-demand today.

So Codecademy Pro is a good place for many people who have no programming experience to learn enough to switch or advance their careers. You can learn new things quickly and do some cool projects that you can talk about in job interviews.

And you can build professional relationships in the peer support groups. This networking opportunity might help you find a programming job down the road.

Is Codecademy Pro Better Than the Alternatives?

Our review found that the price of Codecademy Pro is competitive with other online coding platforms. Codecademy’s course quality, however, is above average. Let’s compare all the details.

Codecademy Pro vs. DataCamp: Which One Is Worth It?

DataCamp offers over 350 courses for Python, R, and SQL. Codecademy, in contrast, has courses for many more programming languages. Depending on what you want to learn, Codecademy will probably be the better choice.

In terms of pricing, our review found that DataCamp is more expensive than Codecademy Pro. DataCamp offers some free courses, but most people sign up for its $25 monthly subscription plan. That is $5 more per month than Codecademy Pro. You can learn more about DataCamp’s pricing here.

In terms of course quality, Codecademy Pro and DataCamp are pretty much the same. Codecademy just has a bigger selection of courses. You can read our review of DataCamp to learn more about its courses.

And in terms of helping you get a job, Codecademy Pro and DataCamp are also similar. You can read this review to learn more about DataCamp’s job placement rate.

Codecademy Pro vs. Pluralsight: Which One Is Worth It?

Pluralsight costs a little bit more than Codecademy Pro. Its standard plan costs $25 per month and gives you access to 2,500 courses. Just like Codecademy Pro, this option includes paths to guide your learning.

The premium plan for Puralsight costs $37 per month. It gives access to the full 7,000 course library, exams, and hands-on projects. We think this price tag is expensive and probably not worth it for most people.

Codecademy Pro vs. edX: Which One Is Worth It?

edX offers 3,500 courses on many subjects from Harvard, MIT, and other universities. Most of edX’s courses are free. However, you can usually buy a certificate of completion for a one-time fee of $100 or less.

edX also has online degree and professional certificate programs. These programs can cost several thousand dollars.

In terms of learning how to code, our review found that  Codecademy Pro is the clear winner for most people. edX is better, however, for people who want to earn recognized certificates and degrees.

Codecademy Pro vs. LinkedIn Learning: Which One Is Worth It?

Formerly known as Lynda, LinkedIn Learning has over 16,000 educational videos. Its paid plan costs $30 per month, which is significantly more money than Codecademy Pro.

Our review found that Codecademy Pro is going to be the better option for almost everyone. To effectively learn coding, you need an interactive environment. But LinkedIn Learning’s courses do not provide that.

Our Final Thoughts: Is Codecademy Pro Worth It?

Codecademy Pro is a great online learning provider that’s worth it for students who are trying to improve their coding skills and knowledge of tech subjects. Codecademy offers a ton of courses that cover Python, JavaScript, SQL, and many other popular programming languages.

We think that Codecademy Pro is worth the money because you get access to a lot of courses and so much information on different programming languages all in one place.

You can also take advantage of the 7-day free trial before paying anything. That means there’s no risk in giving Codecademy Pro a try!
